Ringworm Causes And Prevention
Ringworm is a fungal infection in which red circular patches appear on the surface of the skin. The patches are rough and scaly and cause itching. It mostly affects the scalp, hands, feet and nails. However, it is a highly contagious disease and therefore spreads quickly to other parts of the body via the nails. Direct physical contact with an infected person and sharing articles of personal use are the most common ways in which this disease is transmitted. Lack of personal hygiene is the chief cause of this ailment. Thus, changing clothes every day or even more frequently, especially undergarments and socks, is the easiest way of preventing ringworm, as it is the combination of dirt and moisture that offers the ideal environment for the ringworm bacteria to grow and multiply. In addition, wear comfortably loose fitting garments, preferably made of cotton, in order to allow the free passage of air through clothes to the surface of the skin. Avoid sharing towels in public swimming pools, as this might cause the ringworm bacteria to be transmitted through touch. Do not share hats, combs or any other articles of personal use with another person as this might also cause infection. In case you are already suffering from ringworm, switch to an all-fruit diet for a few days. Eat lots of juicy fruits like papaya, oranges, apples and pomegranates, and eat these at regular intervals. This will flush out the infecting germs from the body. You can supplement this diet with boiled but unsalted green vegetables. A few days later, you may include milk and curd in your diet as well. Avoid artificially flavored, spicy and highly sweetened foodstuff, as well as caffeine-based foods and beverages.
