Homemade Remedies For Morning Sickness
Morning sickness is the feeling of nausea that a majority of pregnant women often suffer from, sometime during gestation. This problem is most pronounced during the first trimester, though some women suffer from morning sickness throughout their pregnancy. Though the feeling of nausea and the urge to vomit sometimes persists through the day, it is especially intense in the first half of the day, which is why this condition is commonly referred to as morning sickness. During pregnancy the expectant mother’s body undergoes several changes due to the increase in hormonal activity, and this is the major cause behind morning sickness. The hormone progesterone, for instance, is known to relax the muscles of the stomach, which slows down the process of digestion and makes the digestive tract extremely sensitive to food. The gastrointestinal tract becomes especially sensitive during this period, causing the frequent tendency to vomit.
There are several simple home remedies to treat morning sickness. You should avoid eating just two or three big meals in the day and instead eat five or six small meals throughout the day at regular intervals. Stay away from strong smelling substances as these are known to worsen the feeling of nausea. Also, avoid eating deep fried and oily food. Before going to bed, eat a snack that is rich in protein. You could try drinking small portions of fruit juices and reduce your intake of solid food, as liquids are easier for the stomach to digest. Also, make sure that your diet contains enough natural sources of calcium, carbohydrates and vitamin B, as the deficiency of these essential nutrients often leads to morning sickness. A very useful remedy is to mix a spoonful of wheat germ in a glass of warm milk and sip a little of this solution every couple of hours throughout the day. For another remedy, crush 5gms of curry leaves till the juice oozes out of them and to this add a teaspoon of honey and two teaspoons of fresh lemon juice. Mix the ingredients well and consume this mixture 3-4 times a day to reduce morning sickness. A mixture of one teaspoon each of lime juice, honey and mint juice and half a teaspoon of ginger juice is also highly beneficial in controlling morning sickness. Drink ginger tea twice a day to treat morning sickness. Allowing fresh air to enter your house is also a useful way of keeping away the feeling of nausea.
